Tampa, Florida

In today's Retirement Planning we are going to look at Tampa, Florida.

Tampa is located in west central Florida, on the coast. I must confess that I like warm weather so Tampa is a city that certainly meets my personal requirements as far as weather. Tampa has plenty of opportunities for recreation. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the NFL, major league baseball's Tampa Bay Devil Rays and the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning are the professional sports teams in town. You also have museums, restaurants and my personal favorite...many golf courses.

Tampa is a city of about 303,000 people. Tampa has a tropical climate with many of my favorite trees (Palm Trees). Tampa averages about 45" of rain per year. The wettest months are June (5.5"), July (6.5"), August (7.6") and September (6.5").

Following is the average high temperatures by month:

Jan 70
Feb 72
Mar 76
Apr 81
May 86
Jun 89
Jul 90
Aug 89
Sep 84
Oct 84
Nov 78
Dec 72

Here is some more information about Tampa:

46% Democrat
53% Republican

17% Catholic
19% Protestant

51% White
26% Black
19% Hispanic

The overall cost of living is rated at 95 on a scale where 100 is considered average.

Tampa also averages 246 sunny days per year.

If you like sunshine and warm weather then Tampa would be a place to look at in your Retirement Planning.

I've lived in Florida since I was a young child in a variety of places. Tampa is very nice, but it's terribly crowded. I currently live about 80 miles to the north in Citrus County. Anyone looking at Florida as a place to retire should really consider Citrus. Nestled along the Gulf of Mexico on Florida's Nature Coast, Citrus offers all the beauty of Florida without the skyscrapers and bumper-to-bumper traffic. Plus it is within an hour to an hour and a half of Mickey Mouse (Orlando), everything Tampa has to offer, and world-class medical care (Shands at the University of Florida in Gainesville.) If you want to learn more about Citrus County, see citrus411.com and visitcitrus.com.
