I have decided to abandon this Blog in favor of my Blog at http://retirementlifeplanning.blog.com

Thank you for those of you who have visited this site and I hope you will visit my other Blog.

Anaheim is located in the SW part of California. It is about 38 miles SE of Los Angeles. Anaheim is a city of about 330,000 people.

The average high temperature in Anaheim is ideal, in my opinion. The bad news regarding the climate is the fact that Anaheim gets very little rain, only about 13" per year. Phoenix, Arizona

As you are working on your retirement planning, Phoenix, Arizona may be a city to consider as a place to live.

Phoenix is a city of about 1.5 million people with the majority being either White (55%) or Hispanic (34%). You have plenty of entertainment in the Phoenix area with museums, dining, professional and college sports.

Phoenix averages about 7" of rain per year. If there is snow in Phoenix then you need to think that maybe there is something to the global cooling that the radical environmentalists were talking about in the 1970's.

Phoenix has plenty of sunshine with an average of 299 sunny days per year. Along with the sunshine come warm temperatures. Okay, I'll say it, in some months it is downright hot. December, January and February have average highs in the 60's with December and January each averaging 65 degrees. March and November each average in the 70's. April and October each have average highs in the 80's. May and September each have average highs in the 90's. The come the killer months. June, July and August have average high temperatures of 102, 104 and 102 degrees respectively. I know a lot of people say "it is a dry heat", but anything over 100 degrees is still hot to me.

For those who like hot sunny days and plenty of choices for activities, Phoenix should be on your list of cities to look at as you plan your retirement.

Anchorage, Alaska

Anchorage, Alaska is a beautiful place, however, it is too cold for me. Some of you you be interested in Alaska as you do your retirement home planning so here is some information for you.

Anchorage is a city of about 260,000 people. It is 2,857 miles northwest of Los Angeles, CA. I just thought I would throw that statistic in for fun.

Anchorage gets about 71" of snow per year. Normally when I think of Alaska I think of frigid temperatures. While it is cold in Anchorage, it is almost bearable. The average high temperature in November, December, January and February is in the 20's with January being the coldest with an average high of 21 degrees. March and October's average high is in the 30's. April's average high is 43 degrees. May and September each have an average high temperature of 55 degrees. June, July and August all have average high temperatures in the 60's with July being the warmest month at 65 degrees.

Alaska has a high cost of living, however, that is offset by the extremely low taxes. Alaska is the most tax friendly state in the United States. That is something important to know as you plan your retirement.

If you are considering relocating upon retirement and you don't mind cold weather, Anchorage would be a place to consider. The scenery in Alaska is beautiful.

Huntsville, Alabama

I have a special feeling for Huntsville, Alabama and I don’t know why. I have been through part of the city once and have driven by it 4-5 times on the way to Florida but it seems to call me. Every time I start looking at places to relocate to when I retire, Huntsville is always on the list. I currently rank it in my top 15 places to consider in my retirement planning.

Huntsville is a city of about 168,000 people and is located in Northern Alabama. It is about 84 miles to Birmingham and 100 miles to Nashville.

Here are some climate statistics for Huntsville:

Average High Temp. Average Precipitation

January 48 5.52
February 54 4.95
March 63 6.68
April 72 4.54
May 79 5.24
June 86 4.22
July 89 4.40
August 89 3.32
September 83 4.29
October 73 3.54
November 61 5.22
December 52 5.59

As you can see, Huntsville gets a lot of precipitation but very little of that is snow. Huntsville gets about 1” of snow per year.

Huntsville is only about 6 hours from Panama City, Florida so it would be easy to take a long weekend in the winter to enjoy the warmer weather. It is also only about 100 miles to Nashville if you want to take in an NFL game or NASCAR race. Of course being a city of 168,000 people, Huntsville has some good entertainment in the city and surrounding area as well.

Huntsville is a city you should consider in your retirement planning.
